Paul Ryan Offers Amendment to Strike Government-Run Health Care Plan

Congressman Paul Ryan (WI-01) offers amendment to strike the government-run plan House Ways and Means Committee markup of HR 3200 July 16, 2009 Let me begin by saying how I agree with something that Mr. Stark said at the beginning of this hearing. He said that this debate is a profound one, and that this vote may possibly be the most important vote ever taken in our service here in Congress. I agree. Its a big issue. Its a big debate. I have a number of regrets let me list a few. The bill we got less than 48 years ago. The Chairmans mark we got at three minutes to midnight last night. I regret the fact that not a single person that is about to vote on this bill today has read this bill. I also regret the fact that the Congressional Budget Office has just told us that they don’t know what it costs. So were about to vote a bill that we havent read and we dont know what it costs. Whats also been quite amazing in this debate as this year has proceeded is that the rhetoric has been so sweet. The words work really well. The things that have been said about this bill sound so good. I dont think Ive ever seen an issue where the rhetoric so clearly contradicts the substance of this legislation. No one that makes under $250000 will be taxed at all. Ha! Theres a bunch of taxes in here for everybody. If you like the insurance you have, you can keep it. Well thats what this amendment is all about. This amendment is very simple. It strikes the public plan. It says no government-run

Thank you , thank you and THANK YOU…

if you like your own insurance you will NOT be able to keep it. That is a guarantee.

VOTE NO on the public option.

  8. superbooks7 says:

JUST SAY NO to the so-called “public option”. IT is a lie, there is NO option.

The pres wants it passed EVEN when no one has read the bill..and even though he will not give the cost of the bill.

VOTE incumbants OUT if they vote for this bill.

    THANKS FOR POsting this video.

  10. SK3Nives says:

Yea the bailouts(corporatism) weren’t reviewed either but that didn’t stop it from whizzing through legislation.

Federal Reserve Act of 1913(corporatism) bankrupt the nation in 20yrs. creating
    Social Security(indentured servitude)
    National Defense Act of 1947(dictatorship)
Patriot Act(direct violation of the Constitution of the United States of America AND the Bill of RIGHTS!)
I could go on these are some of the big ones though

But remember the PATRIOT IS THE MAJORITY the media is lying!

if you told me one person voted for this bill after this man’s speech, id be shocked. it basically outlines every problem with the bill. so why is it still floating around? why is barack obama still pushing for something that will not benefit the majority of the american people and the majority of the american people is against it.

Ditto on knowing dumb spenders, Elaine, except many of the people I know spend it on car parts (e.g. monster stereos, rims that are more expensive than the car, two-foot tall spoilers that don’t really kick in until 170mph on a car that can only do 105 if you push it, etc) or buying one of every video game console and game for it that comes out.

And before someone screams “RACIST”, as always happens when I say that; the car guys are as white as rice in a snowstorm…

Smart argument indeed. Worrying about what others are doing and paying must be why you’re on Ryan’s page in the first place. His plan dubbed “Patients Choice” will give the folks who do their hair and nails twice a week, and have large cookouts only to fast days before their welfare check – another handout. $2,300 for individuals and $5,700 for families. Smile.

  14. Elaine02424 says:

Thank you … so sad, but VERY true!

  15. lobo4159 says:

    ELAINE02424, Very well said!

  16. lobo4159 says:

I didn’t infer that we should sit back and do nothing. There are problems that need attention, major attention, and these are partly those that you pointed out. BUT, the government can’t run itself withut screwing up, why give them something else to screw up?

  17. Elaine02424 says:

I have private insurance and want to KEEP it! I know some of these people that don’t have insurance prefer to go out and get their hair and nails done TWICE a week, go out to eat OFTEN, and clothes shopping once a week! Then bitch because they can’t ‘afford’ health insurance! I KNOW because they are family members! ENOUGH ALREADY! Just like welfare people, gimme, gimme, gimme! Food stamp people have LARGE cookouts the first of the month then whine they can’t afford to eat come 31st!

  18. smallaxe100 says:

1/3 of the money designated for health care is confiscated by fat cat CEOs and insurance racketeers AND because politicians are on the take too, we should just ignore it all. Let this so-called “free market” continue to bilk the system. It’ll all work out – right?

Over the past ten years, Paul Ryan received $1,143,560 in campaign contributions from the health care industry.

  19. MagicMan2475 says:

Oh yeah that’s right, I forgot he was about to take over the auto companies as well as healthcare…hmm well they asked for it I guess, I wanted Mccain but I just got made fun of, guess they deserve it

  20. lobo4159 says:

    He already has

  21. lobo4159 says:

I guess that politicians don’t get kickbacks….. Right!

  22. lobo4159 says:

Where did these statistics come from? They’re way off from every economist journal (liberal and conservative) I’ve seen in recent months.

  23. Lloyddobbs says:

I want a BILL PASSED requiring ALL BILLS to be voted on be SWORN to have been read by the Elected who are to vote on it.

  24. MagicMan2475 says:

I swear if the government starts running this Obama is going to become a dictator

  25. carhac66 says:

yet, he admits he has not read it, but he knows what’s in it? something is not right.
why does he not present an amendment to outlaw medicare, medicaid & republican prescription drug plan?
